I live in London, England. My studio is in an upstairs room but has slowly crept into all areas of the house! Artworks which cannot fit into my studio can be found in my daughter’s wardrobe, my husband’s home office and in the garage. I generally carry out my hand stitching in the lounge and complete the construction in the studio. It is also where I keep artbooks, reference books and exhibition catalogues which, along with found objects, become part of the inspiration for my work. Can't live without... Good light Uncluttered spaces Books, lots and lots of books Sharp scissors Beautiful silk threads Chocolate Mental space

I live in Richmond, Virginia USA My studio space is in the basement of my cozy home. Clay is my primary focus but I also work in paper, mixed media and fiber so workspaces stretch into 3 different corners. My pottery area occupies the Northeast corner where I have the advantages of 2 lovely well-lit windows. Clay & Green Tea Studio Can't live without... Clay T-squares and straight edge rulers Needle tools Cutting matts Botanical papers and found objects Waxed linen thread Lots of light Organizing bins and boxes Music My dogs I live in Kew and my studio is a five-minute walk to the Harp Village in East Kew, both inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. For the past 14 years I have rented space for my studio above a retail store in my local ‘Harp Village’ shopping strip. The spacious, north-facing room and enclosed verandah were part of the domestic living room belonging to the original shop, built in the early 1900’s. Can't live without... Warm sunlight streaming into the studio during winter; Several fans in summer (the upstairs space becomes very hot with no air conditioning); Many pairs of sharp embroidery scissors and my collection of embroidery and lace; Large walls I can pin into; My “Wonder-boom” (Bluetooth portable speaker) for listening to Radio National, podcasts and music; A supportive chair for when I’m sitting and extracting needlework from its linen support; Taking regular breaks and doing my physio exercises, to strengthen and protect me from this painstaking, repetitive and obsessive work! I live in Blackheath NSW Australia My space is the third bedroom at home with a tree outside the window. Above the tables along a wall are my works and a cupboard holds threads, fabrics, notebooks and other artists’ works. A bookcase holding embroidery books and folders of my teaching notes and samples sits outside the door. Can't live without.. My boxes of gold threads; Collection of fabrics and books and mixed threads; Notebooks full of inspiration; My special goldwork table and tools CD player for music; My cat; June's social media link
I’m lucky to live in Tumbulgum, a village of 390 people on the Tweed River about 10k south of the Queensland border and a similar distance from the coast. The World Heritage Border Ranges lap the north side of the river. My stitching space encompasses the entire house; the studio, shared with my husband is my storage area, my armchair is where I stitch and I work in my journals, planning future work, at my desk by the front door. The kitchen supplies essentials: tea and wine (when required). Can't live without... My library/books The Internet DMC threads Recycled fabric scraps My journals The Great Outdoors I live in the United States in the Southwestern state of Nevada and the city of Las Vegas. My studio space is a few short steps from the main house. It’s a small casita packed with art supplies, books, art made by myself and treasured collections created by others. My creative room is painted a bright, warm Spanish Yellow and faces east where the morning sun creates a glow that can be seen from the main house. It is a quaint place designed to accommodate intimate size workshops or space to create and dream. Can't live without... Classical or Cirque music Inspirational magazines and books A window over looking the garden A cup of Peppermint tea The company of my two year old Golden doodle pup Lucy Fabric, collected paper, colored pencils, board books and lots of spools of thread Metal wire, wood burner and needle tool I live in Upper Yarra Valley, Warburton My studio is as much outside as it is inside. Utilising all natural fibres, my studio ‘storage cupboards’ extend endlessly outward, through the garden and surrounding bush. Inside and out, every spare wall has become a celebration of bundled and drying natural fibres just waiting for the inspiration to become nest sculptures. Can't live without... inspiring vista that tempts the imagination to believe, if arms were stretched wide enough, they could become wings to soar. The sound and sight of birds, singing and dancing, and building their nests too, directly within view. Flora, fauna and found objects. A rambling garden and native bushland, an endless source of inspiration and natural fibres for my sculptures. A block of beeswax and a No 14 Chenille needle. More windows than walls, to welcome the outdoors in and abundant natural light to help eyes that unexpectedly have grown old, especially when threading needles with gossamer strands of horse hair for stitching! I live in Northcote, Victoria, Australia My studio is a room in my Edwardian house. It has been renovated to include a sink, shelving and good lighting. I have a plan drawer bench on wheels where I stand to work My other desk spaces are used for drawing, printing, sewing and computer work. Most of my storage boxes/drawers are labelled otherwise I’d lose things! Can't live without... Big workbench on top of map drawers with wheels Sink Trusty Bernina sewing machine Step ladder- to reach the high shelves Apron Windows to a green view Computer Good lighting Bluetooth speaker to listen to podcasts, music and audio books I live in Nijmegen, the Netherlands For the last few years I’ve been renting a studio space from the local town council in an anti-squat building. There’s lots of natural light and space for working on my own projects and also big enough for groups who come for mentoring sessions or workshops. Unfortunately the contract has expired so I’m now desperately looking for another beautiful space to house me and my ‘stuff’! I can't live without... My heated encaustic palette & brushes. My large collection of threads, paper & vintage fabrics. Coffee, books and laptop. Moving to Somerton in 2012, a historic West Country village, Somerset My creative space is a small, but perfectly formed garden studio…..with a view of our home. It's more than adequate and usually chaotic with ideas, work in progress - a painting / machine stitching table, and good storage for art and fabric supplies. When tidy, the studio becomes a small gallery space for local ‘open studio - art week’ events. Running water, a kettle and wifi… What more do you need? Can't live without... a good heater in winter, and over head natural light. wifi for music, working on my laptop, or using a small printer. a place to paint and draw. some old family photos - my Canadian roots, and a photo of Constance Howard (who I knew), for inspiration. |
