I live in the small quaint town of Sierra Madre located in Southern California. My studio was originally my father’s woodworking shop, which he built himself. After his passing, I transformed it into my art studio. It has become a very special space because his creative energy is still around. A place where I can always retreat to and reconnect to my true creativity. Can't live without... My collection of found objects I’ve gathered over the years Creative Juice aromatherapy by Aura Cacia My Apple playlist of selected songs that inspire my creativity The fresh outside air that comes into my studio My father’s woodworking tools I live in Wall Township, NJ, USA, near the shore. I’m lucky to have several creative studio spaces to work in. And one of them, my belle tent, is even in my backyard. I have a large studio in the house that use to be our garage. I also have a space in the basement where I do most of my sewing projects. Can't live without... - my doggies - fabric-tac (type of fabric glue) - my portable sewing bag containing embroider floss, needle book, scissors and embroidery hoops - Tv for bingeing movies - Fabrics & yarns - Sewing machine I live in London, England. My studio is in an upstairs room but has slowly crept into all areas of the house! Artworks which cannot fit into my studio can be found in my daughter’s wardrobe, my husband’s home office and in the garage. I generally carry out my hand stitching in the lounge and complete the construction in the studio. It is also where I keep artbooks, reference books and exhibition catalogues which, along with found objects, become part of the inspiration for my work. Can't live without... For the past 14 years I have rented space for my studio above a retail store in my local ‘Harp Village’ shopping strip. The spacious, north-facing room and enclosed verandah were part of the domestic living room belonging to the original shop, built in the early 1900’s. Can't live without... Warm sunlight streaming into the studio during winter; Several fans in summer (the upstairs space becomes very hot with no air conditioning); Many pairs of sharp embroidery scissors and my collection of embroidery and lace; Large walls I can pin into; My “Wonder-boom” (Bluetooth portable speaker) for listening to Radio National, podcasts and music; A supportive chair for when I’m sitting and extracting needlework from its linen support; Taking regular breaks and doing my physio exercises, to strengthen and protect me from this painstaking, repetitive and obsessive work! I live in Blackheath NSW Australia My space is the third bedroom at home with a tree outside the window. Above the tables along a wall are my works and a cupboard holds threads, fabrics, notebooks and other artists’ works. A bookcase holding embroidery books and folders of my teaching notes and samples sits outside the door. Can't live without.. I’m lucky to live in Tumbulgum, a village of 390 people on the Tweed River about 10k south of the Queensland border and a similar distance from the coast. The World Heritage Border Ranges lap the north side of the river. My stitching space encompasses the entire house; the studio, shared with my husband is my storage area, my armchair is where I stitch and I work in my journals, planning future work, at my desk by the front door. The kitchen supplies essentials: tea and wine (when required). Can't live without... My studio space is a few short steps from the main house. It’s a small casita packed with art supplies, books, art made by myself and treasured collections created by others. My creative room is painted a bright, warm Spanish Yellow and faces east where the morning sun creates a glow that can be seen from the main house. It is a quaint place designed to accommodate intimate size workshops or space to create and dream. Can't live without... Utilising all natural fibres, my studio ‘storage cupboards’ extend endlessly outward, through the garden and surrounding bush. Inside and out, every spare wall has become a celebration of bundled and drying natural fibres just waiting for the inspiration to become nest sculptures. Can't live without... inspiring vista that tempts the imagination to believe, if arms were stretched wide enough, they could become wings to soar. The sound and sight of birds, singing and dancing, and building their nests too, directly within view. Flora, fauna and found objects. A rambling garden and native bushland, an endless source of inspiration and natural fibres for my sculptures. A block of beeswax and a No 14 Chenille needle. More windows than walls, to welcome the outdoors in and abundant natural light to help eyes that unexpectedly have grown old, especially when threading needles with gossamer strands of horse hair for stitching! |
