I call the large barn at the side of our house my exclusive workspace. I also use a covered outdoor pergola in the right weather for painting and hand work, and inevitably have part finished projects and experiments strewn in piles throughout the living room for in the evenings. Can't live without... There are quite a list of tools which would be very hard to do without including the usual sewing, painting and printing requisites. I would also be lost without my iron, my little gas burner, soldering iron and heat gun. I wouldn’t want to be without my kettle and coffee making corner, not only for the caffeine intake, but if I had to leave the studio to make drinks it would really interrupt the flow, or the possibility of flow. Having space including benches, wall space and shelves to house projects at different stages is important and a great luxury. Finally, as my partner works from home most of the time these days, having a door to shut is also a key element! Let us know what you think of Alysn's Studio Space by leaving a comment below

LOVE those huge windows and that much space. And yes, continuous coffee is a necessity! Loved seeing your space.

Thanks for commenting. Light is important, and I would like even more, I have saved a window we took out of the house and have to convince my partner to cut a hole in the wall to install it. The downside is that I have limited space for hanging projects to assess and display. Can't have everything! Coffee is calling, better go... Alysn

What a great studio! I then saw you have a workshop coming up in Toowoomba in July but I didn't enrol because I hope to be back in NZ by then. So I looked at your website and found you are in Matakana. Joy oh joy!! i have just bought a house on Kawau so maybe I can see your work - and studio - in person one day.

Your studio is a great size. My new studio at my new home is wonderful, but smaller than yours. I agree with your comment re having a door to close. As much as I love him, my husband opening the door to my studio is immediately an interruption!

Thanks for commenting. Partners hey!! I'm not sure that size of studio is necessarily the main thing, much as I appreciate it, it may just be an excuse to be more messy! Alysn

Love your studio Alysn. I also had the pleasure of seeing it in person. I thought I was the only one getting annoyed by a partner that comes in for no obvious reason at all times during the day. I now have a large shed to work in instead of a studio in the house. Thought it would defer hubby....NOT. So now I just lock my door when I want to work undisturbed. :-)

Hi Christine, I knew you were building a new place, I hope it is wonderful. Hubby had to be told off again today, wandering just because..., so maybe I'll have to install a lock too. Hope all is well up north.
