I’ve been binding books since 1997.
My first exposure to the world of bookbinding was when I saw some books bound by a friend’s aunt in France.
I took lessons in Bath and Bristol, UK, and moved to Lyon, France to further my studies there.
I’ve been working professionally since 2000, working for 2 different companies.
During this time, I set up The Melbourne School of Bookbinding, teaching from a small studio in my flat.
10 years ago, I went fully self employed. The business grew, so I moved to a larger studio in Albert Park.

bookbinding 4 ways
Bookbinding is a wonderful blend of artistic expression and technical construction: the book needs to function, and can look stunning as well. It is deeply satisfying to hold something tangible, practical and beautiful in your hands after a day’s work.
4 book binding structures / exposed sewing
Japanese bindings. Traditional and modern sewing patterns. We will dye the covers using Orizomegami techniques .
Longstitch binding: Non-adhesive binding stitched through leather covers, with decorative exposed sewing.
Tacketted binding : Based on a medieval structure. The cover is made independently of the bookblock, the tacketts holding the book together are visible on the spine.
Simplified Ethiopian binding. Binding structure using a unique link stitch, front and back covers are covered, leaving the spine exposed.
All bindings can be done with little to no experience...
