waxy poetics: Exploring Encaustics in 3d
Get ready to launch into 3D, break new ground and open yourself to experimentation!
Explore the joy of working in the third dimension and onto alternative surfaces using encaustic medium. This workshop will take you from 2D to begin with, then launch you into the world of 3D structures.
You will be using humble materials such as, cardboard, plywood, recycled hard book covers, plaster bandage, plaster of Paris and joint compound, as your substrates, hessian, calico, twigs, and rebar wire will be included to create your 3D structures and surfaces. Learn to create exciting textural surfaces by inscribing, rubbing in pan pastels, oil paints and oil pastels. Build up layers using encaustic medium by embedding photographic images, collage papers, ephemera and found objects, further layering will be achieved using a variety of transfer techniques and underpainting on your 2D and 3D creations.
Experiment with techniques such as, mark making, drawing, and using your own hand cut stencils within your artworks.
Explore the possibilities of combining encaustic with both light and heavy weight papers.
This workshop is suitable for artists wishing to explore this medium beyond the 2D, the workshop is suitable for artists who are at the beginning stage of encaustic exploration, the more advanced encaustic artist will enjoy experimenting and extending their practice further.
Whatever your level, having a sense of adventure and curiosity will be an advantage!
