Nicole Barakat is an artist and educator living on Gadigal Wangal Country, in Sydney. She works with intuitive processes and intentions to transform the conditions of everyday life.
Her artwork engages unconventional approaches to art-making, creating intricate works that embody the
love and patience characteristic of traditional textile practices. Nicole has worked as an educator in the arts for 20 years, lecturing in fine arts (textiles) at UNSW Art & Design (2003 – 2011) and as an artist educator at the Art Gallery of NSW (2016 – 2018) and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (2013 – present).
Nicole approaches her teaching practice with generosity, gentleness and a sensitivity to learners' needs.

Art of abundance: strategies for creative practice
An enjoyable, immersive program supporting artists and makers to develop new strategies for their creative practice. You are invited to step outside your comfort zone to engage in open-ended, intuitive and experimental, process-based research, in a supportive and safe setting.
The program includes diverse approaches to art practice, encouraging play and risk-taking with materials and techniques, writing and discussions as well as self-evaluation and critical reflection.
You will be offered a unique collection of strategies for starting new projects, generating ideas and working through creative blocks; as well as gaining insight into your personal approach to art making.
