From a childhood in Warrnambool on the Shipwreck Coast to East Gippsland an abundant aquatic place of ocean, lakes, wetlands, rivers and native forest - rich in biodiversity.
As a child I was taught to “make and mend it ”. This was further enhanced while working on festivals and events where the need to improvise and use what was at hand important.
This has instilled a resourcefulness and resilience in my art practice and has provided me with a clear vision to conserve our natural world.
I use salvaged materials in my sculpture of which most materials are saved from landfill, a process I started during my Post Graduated degree in Sculpture.
My Sculpture has focused more and more on recycling materials.

ifinite cardboard vessel
Cardboard is often recycled, is light weight, strong, low cost (often free) and nontoxic to use.
This workshop will focus on how to design and construct from cardboard, you will be amazed at what can be made from such a simple material, using simple tools it is ideal for making Sculpture.
You will learn innovative joining and construction techniques with various types of cardboard - Box Board, Corrugated, Smooth, Textured.
Cardboard can look like METAL or a soft CORAL depending how one treats the surface, it can be punched with neat holes, cut or ripped, the surface can be added to with more card or bits of found objects.
Patterns can be made with repetitive elements from the punched material from the holes, " creative use of leftovers".
You may use a woven fabric texture, reflect a natural surface like bark, cover it with a natural ochre or one of various metal patinas. The workshop will extend your patina skills, there many materials and methods and are really exciting.
These may transfer to your own work.
The theme for the workshop is VESSEL.
The piece you make will be an enclosed shape, a sculpture, or a vessel to hold something.
Metaphorically a vessel could be a Ship, a symbol for departure, enclosed and self-contained which merges with the outside forces of nature. A vessel could explore the sense of closure like Childs passion.
for a tent or cubby. A Vessel could be a husk a Sheath to enclose something. There will be an initial brainstorming session followed by some drawing, construction techniques and the wonderful world of Patinas.
You may like to add found objects to your work, this can be anything small like shells, coral, rusty wire, sea glass, copper shim, small disc’s, driftwood twigs, see the inspiration board attached.
