Marking Time - series 2.5

2021 - 18 Pieces - Smallest 10 x 10 x 1.5cm - Largest 13 x 13 x 1.5cm
The work consists of recycled business tie linings complete with stitch marks and dye bleed stains, doilies, silk scraps, offcuts of previous artworks and threads, that have been folded, pleated and hand stitched.
I watch the gradual blooming of a banksia flower, its tightly contained florets in perfect symmetry. The repetitive nature of my daily walk allows space for observation of its small changes over time.
As 2020’s winter progresses, rain and wind assist the destruction and dispersal of individual florets, transforming their perfection, like my wind-blown hair, showing its true colours thanks to the COVID lockdown.
We tend to worship perfection and youth. Marking Time - Series 2.5 highlights and celebrates the beauty of other stages of the lifecycle through an exploration of messy textures, marks of a life lived, and vulnerability.
Photographer - Louise Wells
Price - $3800
