Sewing on Fabric and Photography
In 2006, I was working on an artwork which I pierced through a self-photography with an acupuncture needle. It was a long and labour-intensive work, so I used tricks of using a sewing machine to make holes instead of using needles. The result was not pretty. The photography was torn out and got tough and messy holes. This was a beginning of Rag face series. I started being interested in myself who was trying to control the power and the movement of the sewing machine. In the meantime, I have seen the possibilities of new stitches depart from traditional stitches or embroidery. It was also attractive to me that I get picturesque stitches and both sided images in a single operation. The Rag face is completed by mixed techniques –photography, painting, and stitching. My work can be 2-Dimensional if you chose a preferred image and hang it on the wall. It can also be a 3-dimensional work if you hang it in the air, enjoying both sides. My work is completed by the choice of the audience.
