Gordon Bain is an Australian artist who’s practice has focused on the biosphere for the past thirty years. He paints on board using acrylic and graphite - landscape, water and birds are constant themes.
‘Lately I’ve had the time and space to experiment and there’s been a gradual shift to using paper, collage and to making small sculptural pieces.
These feel very much a natural extension of my paintings - there’s a lightness and immediacy to working in 3D that I find very appealing.’

votive figures - 3D work with paper & found objects
In this workshop we’ll draw references from the natural world, from ancient history and from your personal experiences.
You’ll learn simple construction techniques to build strong, light armatures - these will form the foundation for everything that you make over the course of the week.
We’ll experiment with a variety of materials - papers, fabrics and found objects. You’ll play with scale, pattern and repetition, and use a wide range of techniques including sgraffito, resist work and collage.
You’ll draw on your experiences and memories to make deeply personal work, and to give your multi-layered pieces a unique resonance.
We’ll work hard, it’ll be fun every step of the way, and I look forward to meeting you.
All skill levels are welcome
