Di Ellis is a Melbourne born artist with a degree in Fine art Print making from RMIT . She is a self taught embroidered using it first as a medium for print but then moving to thread full time . When not making art she owned an ran a cake shop her shop front being a different kind of artists canvas.
Di’s work has explored, women’s place, costume, Barbie and Ken, Comment around saving the planet and nature in general.
During COVID’s Melbourne lockdowns she walked her neighbourhood daily picking native flowers as inspiration for new stitching. By using inherited vases and strong lighting to create shadows Di made a series on aged Damask napkins which were imbued with family meaning in a time of isolation

In this workshop we will explore the world of Barbie and her friends decide what to dress her in including accessories and/or should she be positioned with a dream house background.
Once an image has been worked up we will transfer her onto suitable retro fabric and using simple stitches create a frame worthy image to keep .
