In this workshop you will experiment with a unique technique of hand stitched animation.
We will start by demystifying the process of animation and discussing its basic concepts and approaches one can take.
Using traditional embroidery stiches, we will create sequential motifs, on either cloth or paper exploring movement and the kinetic qualities of thread. Students will be able to work in both illustrative and abstract ways.
These embroidered drawings will then be photographed and brought to life using a stop-motion app on either a phone or iPad. Technology will be available in the studio for those without devices.
If you enjoy drawing with thread and hand stitching, this is an exciting opportunity to take your work to another dimension.
No prior experience in animation or embroidery is required.
