Ballarat Autumn 2021
6th – 11th April 2021View Event
Trained at London University Art Schools, I have taught youths and adults, permanently and in workshops and have had successful exhibitions. My style has developed over the years, but one constant has been a leaning towards using nature in symbolic semi abstract work.I use recycled materials and found objects on fabric, causing tension with odd combinations such as plastic, velvet and silk. My inspiration may come from a press headline, a poem or a view. My interaction with students results in an exciting exchange of ideas….I learn from others while passing on my ideas.
This entirely new course is aimed at exercising the imagination through discussion and interaction, and then through your individual skills in applique and stitching.
You will be provided from my personal research material, shortened versions of actual case studies on the subjects of Mental Health, Gender Dysphoria and Patients Rights from which you can choose to send your message via your artistic creation.
We will discuss the importance of word-colour-texture-association before sketching your ideas. There will be many ideas and many sketches before transferring something onto your background material. This cloth will be coloured with thinned acrylic paints accordingly. The symbols chosen for your final cohesive picture will convey your emotive message to the world of young professionals whose daily practice involves dealing with traumatic periods in our lives.
It is not necessary to be an advanced needlewoman, but not a beginner either…..just to have an open mind and enjoy a feeling of freedom of expression
You will go home with a completed art work, together with a selection of other thought provoking messages for future compositions…….and certainly with a number of interesting topics for continued discussion
