The book as a form of COMMUNICATION
There is something about a handmade book that entices us to open the covers and peek inside.
What will we find: an intriguing story? A collection of poems? A series of sketches of collages?
This workshop focuses on the book form as a means of communicating ideas and information. Through a series of structured exercises students will learn how to make a variety of book structures and develop skills in combining image, set and physical form (size, format, materials) to convert ideas and information.
What you will learn in this workshop
How to make a range of book structures, from simple folded books to multi-section sewing
How to choose materials and formats to reinforce the message you want to convey
Strategies for generating and combining images and text in the book form
This workshop is for anyone who wants to use the book as a form of artistic expression and communication.
Previous bookmaking experience is not necessary.
