I work predominantly with Printmaking and mixed media, often preferring to select material and surface that makes connections with the theme and context. Method and meaning are often interconnected.
Approaches usually involve deconstructing and assembling work using collage methods. In particular juxtaposing multi layered prints and drawings with stitch as a way to examine, reinterpret and reimagine.
I like to begin a group of work with initial research to underpin, drive and inform a body of work. For instance, historical research which is often accompanied by repeated visits to a location.
Whilst starting points to my work can vary, a recurring interest is in imagery that has a sense of the uncanny. Also, ways to convey a narrative around absence, presence and transience.

print & stitch assemblages - a narrative of mark making
In this workshop you will explore and develop skills and ideas in printmaking, drawing, hand stitch and collage to create multi-layered unique, considered assemblages.
We will start by building up a body of layered drawings and prints using a variety of media, including ink, paint and thread. We will also look at the use of unconventional surfaces to work with, such as book pages and book covers as well as traditional printmaking paper surfaces. There will be a focus on ways to create multi-layered prints and drawings that have depth.
Following an initial lively period of mark-making through print, the second half of the course will focus on assemblage methods. We will explore ways to edit, layer and collage the work.
There will be opportunity at this stage to utilise found books to create simple tray like frames or a book piece to contain your work. Media will include hand stitch and specialist glue to join, collage, layer and embellish. Your outcome pieces may be two or three dimensional depending on your preference and how you wish to develop and display your work.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with previous experience as there will be individual mentoring and advice throughout. Throughout the course you will be encouraged to record ideas and development as written notes and small visual trials in a sketchbook or notebook.
