SHANNON WEBER
Ballarat Spring 21st – 27th September 2020
About Shannon Weber
Shannon Weber is a self-taught, award winning, interdisciplinary artist whose works are driven by inspired vision and a collection of materials from nature, the ocean, and various odd forgotten objects. She often reinvents the wheel with various applications of techniques that included cold connection, stitching, and mark making among others, that bring each sculpture or object to life. Her works are often the subjects of lectures by known curators of fine craft and fiber, and are featured in publications worldwide for her unique approach and unusual material choices. She exhibits nationally and internationally.
Sculptural Boats
Come explore sculptural mixed media by weaving simple boat forms and objects with rattan. The boats and objects are layered with handmade papers and fabric with matte medium. Then we are off to play and explore with the processes of using various techniques of attachment, and to mark making that will draw interest to surface movement and embellishment. We’ll sand back various surfaces and add stitching, embedding, and applique methods which will then allow rocks, found objects, beads, and other sources of materials to be included in your designs.
Basketry, Mixed, or Stitching experience will be very helpful however; this class is open to all levels.
