PAM HOVEL

My fascination with the magical properties of wool and the felt making process spans 16 years. My felting journey has taken me in many directions from naturally dyed wearables to vessels and through to sculpture which is my main focus today. The amazing sculptural qualities of wool begs me to continually explore and develop new techniques.

I live on a rural bush property in Central Victoria from where I gain much inspiration for my work.

I have been teaching feltmaking for ten years throughout Australia and New Zealand. I have won awards for my work and I exhibit widely.

ORGANIC FORMS in FELT

During this workshop we will explore various textures and forms found in nature and translate these into abstract 3D sculptures in felt.  You are encouraged to look into the natural world for inspiration and come to class with your observations. As an example, seed pods offer a huge variety of interesting textures and forms. The aim is not to make exact replicas but to explore sculptural techniques and interpret aspects that appeal to you into your work.

Using your imagination, combined with a variety of manipulation techniques and resists, you can expect to make several unique sculptures. Special attention will be given to structure and finish.

Some felting experience and a knowledge of working with resists is essential to achieve optimum results.
