Ballarat Autumn 6th – 12th April 2021

KIRSTEN INGEMAR

I studied textiles in Denmark, where I grew up.

As a textile artist I have worked with plant dyeing and leaf imprinting onto cloth for more than twenty five years, a technique now commonly used and known as eco-dyeing. Over the years I have developed and fine-tuned my technique of imprinting and the process has become a way of articulating my relationship with landscapes in Australia.

I love how the plant imprint becomes a recording of a given place and time, and how it as brought me in contact with the natural world in a different way.

I have worked as a tutor and art educator in diverse settings; COFA in Sydney, Queensland Flying arts, Fibre Arts, numerous workshops in Australia and overseas, and most recently co-founder of ‘Art in Nature’

CONNECTION IN and TO NATURE

Spending time outside in nature is one of the most beneficial, nourishing and inspirational things you can do for yourself.

This workshop offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural environment and draw inspiration for working with natural dyes and plant matter, collage and stitching. We will use drawing; photographing, collecting and simple meditations to starting create inside and outside.

We will explore leaf imprints and other mark making with natural materials on cloth and paper to integrate with collage and stitching.

We will be photographing things to make and making things to photograph.

We will make things to dye and dye things to make.

We will make outside to bring in and make inside to take out.

Come prepared to spend time in all weather (within reason)
