I am a visual storyteller who creates quirky, elegant and optimistic narratives.
These unique stories are often housed within a vessel.
I transform everyday ordinary stories through the skilful marriage of collected materials, folded pages, print and stitch. I combine these diverse materials by deconstructing, reconstructing and layering. Layered symbols and motifs create multiple meanings.
I draw on imagery from times past, found objects and the natural world.
Motifs and symbols such as: birds, crocodiles, vessels/pods, spoons, keys and leaves appear regularly in my work.
I use a range of techniques and medium in the creation of my works: printmaking, assemblage, collage, encaustic, textiles, stitch and book forms. I often combine two or more techniques particularly stitch, paper and textiles. I create work in a series or variations of a theme. I find this keeps me fresh and open to new directions and possibilities in my work.
I gain inspiration from my collections of objects, which include everyday items, broken and time worn cast offs, natural objects, paper, textile and found ephemera.

print - books - box
Ideal for beginners or artists with experience who wish to further their skills in printing, box making and creating artists books.
Print
There is a richness of history, memory and time held within the layer of surfaces such as those seen on ancient stone walls, timber walls and doors and steel surfaces to name a few. In this workshop you will create a palimpsest* of marks on paper and fabric, using a variety of mark making techniques; mono printing using hand cut stencils, intaglio printing using the paper plate drypoint technique, staining, dyeing. rusting and making marks using a range of 'found' and handmade tools and brushes. Sometimes you will be effacing what is there, at other times you will be superimposing further marks and images to build up layers. Hand stitching and piercing will be used to create further layers.
Books
Your created surfaces, containing their layers of marks and narrative, will then be transformed into book forms and structures, you will learn; the Turkish map fold, scrolls, concertina, side bound and multiple pamphlet stitched book formats
Box
In the final phase of the workshop you will construct a purpose built, compartmentalised lidded box, from great board and foam core, to house your books plus any objects that you decide are integral to your narrative and your theme.
