Soft Drawing: cloth and thread
Have you ever thought of using thread and stitch to create 'soft' drawings?
Working with cloth and thread, students will be encouraged to play with creatine patterns and shapes, textures and layers, with various hand-stitch applications in two and three dimensions.
Experiment by combining new techniques to discover ways to use thread for mark-making and produce a series of expressive artworks in a supportive setting.
Michele Elliot initially guides you through some simple design and compositional exercises. These will form the basis for a small series of works using hand-stitching, experimental embroidery and textile techniques. With an emphasis on recycling, you can incorporate an array of different materials into your 'soft' drawings.
Utilise your fabric stash, use up scraps, recycle worn clothing or household linen. The class is an invitation to enjoy art making with a looseness and imperfection through the hand-made, rather than focusing on precision and refinement.
