Ballarat Autumn 2021
6th – 11th April 2021View Event
Working under the pseudonym The Pale Rook, Johanna Flanagan is one of Scotland’s leading doll artists with work in collections throughout the world. Her work is known for its raw vulnerability and sensitive, intuitive approach to materials.
Johanna has been making dolls since she was a child, but chose to study fashion at the London Royal College of Art, before working around the world as a designer in the fashion and film industry. In 2014, while living in Norway, she decided to reconnect with her love of doll making.
Doll Artist Johanna Flanagan will lead you through the process of designing and making your own bespoke, hand sewn cloth art doll
The workshop will cover every aspect of Johanna’s style of cloth doll design and production, from drafting a bespoke pattern to work form, to working with natural material, hand drawing a face and adding fine details. While learning the technical skills to make a cloth doll, you will also learn how to create a doll that is meaningful to you, using both your intuition and your connection to your materials to guide the design process and develop your doll’s character
