Jemma an artist living rural area Sydney, the landscape both cultivated and bush, sweep of mountains and the river, plus local sand mining all influences her work.
Seeking to capture moments, or a response to beauty, to inscribe the cycle of decay and renewal that the seasons reveal.
She is interested in what holds memory whether place objects or time.
Earlier work with silk and screen prints related to how fabric held significance & memory particularly for women.
Jemma's art has been expressed through a variety of unorthodox, freestyle experimental print methods combining drawing, painting.
Incorporating these methods adding to collage uniquely created and printed papers, old book pages, fabric, dress patterns and sheet music.
They are at times gestural and abstracted or recognisable landscapes, larger works or a series of small works or artists books.
Regularly exhibiting and has won several art prizes.
A teacher and educator for many years, currently teaching two days weekly at Ku Ring Gai Arts Centre.

In this workshop you will begin to trust your own intuition and develop your own visual language.
Each person has their own unique mark, process, and approach. We will begin the workshop with a series of exercises aimed at loosening up, experimenting, and playing with materials.
Then we set about on a journey of discovery, experimentation, and delight.
Creating by selecting, layering, making connections and collaging various textured & found papers, fabric and stitching, plant prints, monotypes, linoleum prints and drawing rearranging the composition until it comes together in a pleasing manner.
The work & images can flow from representational to abstracted lines and marks suggestive of observations made, to expressive marks colour and pattern generated by the mixing of collage and layering of papers and paint.
Letting the process guide your decisions and finding compositions that work using viewfinders and other methods to settle on a finished work. It's a completely immersive and fascinating way of creating art, the juxtaposition of unexpected connections of the elements are surprising.
These techniques will be assembled onto various supports including mulberry paper, watercolour paper, concertina books, handmade books, a series of small art works and an art resource workbook containing ideas and examples.
Through close observation and experimentation, you will experience letting go expectations leading to unexpected and joyful ways of putting work together creating fresh and beautiful art.
All levels of creative experience can enjoy and gain from the process.
