Jane is a compulsive creative with a fascination for pattern making and using her hands. Her mother encouraged and nurtured her interests teaching her practical skills with needle and thread. Art has always been there and started with drawing and painting. She tried different media; oils, acrylic and watercolour but the results always fell short.
Late in 2010, she attended a workshop with Yoshiko Wada, textile artist and founder of the World Shibori Network and was introduced to the world of indigo dyeing on fabric. She had found her tribe.
Since then, she has learned from several accomplished dyers and shibori exponents; Michel Garcia, French dye chemist and developer of the ‘1-2-3 indigo vat’; Jane Callender, English shibori stitch expert; Aboubakar Fofana, master indigo dyer from Mali and Australian Julie Ryder, professional natural dyer and printer.
Music has also featured strongly in Jane’s life. She has taught all her adult life and enjoys passing on her skills to others in group settings as she believes the teacher learns just as much as the student.
