Caroline wisler, australiacyanotype - from traditional to contemporaryballarat september 2022 |
|
With a focus on place and environment, through marking time, Caroline Wisler’s practice serves as a recording of flora, found objects, and other materials in their most organic state.
The historical photographic technique Cyanotype allows her to capture the transience of plant and found materials through direct imagery transfer. This process harnesses natures’ natural energy, the sun, to capture the marks, shadows, silhouettes, and outlines of found flora and other objects.
Her practice is informed and inspired according to the landscape she is working within and the materials found there.
Caroline’s work captures the raw, organic beauty of the subject in its most natural state, with the bold contours and receding shadows creating imagery that is full of movement, beauty, and elegance.
In 2017 she completed her Diploma in Visual Arts after many years developing her techniques, exhibiting, and experimenting. She has recently exhibited with the Tweed Regional Gallery and The Field ARI, as well as completing a six month residency at the Caldera Wildscapes Gallery. Her work is held in private collections worldwide.

cyanotype - from traditional to contemporary
Join Caroline for five days of blue and white heaven learning the analogue photographic technique Cyanotype.
Working mainly with flora foraged from the surrounding landscape, students will gain a broad knowledge base of this historical process. Starting small and working their way up in size students will learn basic technique through composition, layering, object exploration, toning, wet cyanotype, and addition of mixed media. All works will be created on paper, with students completing several pieces to take home.
The structure of this workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding to explore the possibilities within the framework of this 180 year old medium, taking it from an historical context into the contemporary world.
Previous experience is not necessary and will suit students of any artistic skill level.
Be prepared to spend some time outdoors for collecting flora and printing.
