I have been working as a textile artist for over 20 years and have authored four books and many articles; I offer a breadth of teaching and mentoring experience in the field of mixed media, fibre art, textiles and embroidery.
I enjoy working with varied media and incorporating unusual materials into my textiles.
I create work which is imbued with personal references.
The pieces are rarely representational, but whatever their form, I am looking for an emotive response from the viewer.
My am is to be at once personal, disconcerting and fascinating.

Metal Cloth To The Max
Explore the possibilities of metal cloth for contemporary textile practice.
Alysn has used industrially produced fine cloths woven from pure metals in copper, bronze, brass and stainless steel for several years. She will lead you through many ideas and techniques to use these cloths in this practical and highly productive course. You will discover the wide possibilities of using these metals and find many exciting options with which to expand your own work.
You will take advantage of their manipulability, translucence, structural qualities and stitchability to investigate possibilities for hangings and sculptures (both in- and out-door), for practical and artistic wearables, for adornments, jewellery, lighting features, to add an exciting element to your current practice and other ideas.
During the workshop you will add colour using techniques such as heat, sprays, embossing powders, patinas and paints; you will use inventive applique and patchwork techniques; address structural uses; use soluble fabrics; include chiffons, fibres and hand and machine stitch techniques for construction and surface decoration.
By the end of the course you will have a sample book with ideas to make your own and several smaller pieces either complete or in progress.
